MHS SP, part quatre
“How despicably have I acted…I, who have prided myself on my discernment!-I, who have valued myself on my abilities! who have often disdained from the generous candor of my sister, and gratified my vanity in useless or blamable distrust.”
-Pg 178
Redux!
I found it odd here that Elizabeth prided herself on her ‘discernment,’ i.e. her judgment; generally speaking, one doesn’t pride oneself on judging others. In fact, it’s usually frowned upon in these times, with the whole “don’t judge a book by its cover” spiel. Also, considering the fact that Elizabeth was generally judging others who judged her was kind of hypocritical of herself.
